Flame of Youth

1990 BKK, Thailand Bio Wal Chirachaisakul studied at the College of Fine Art, and graduated in Graphic Arts at the Painting and Sculpture Faculty at Silpakorn University, both in Bangkok, Thailand. Wal got the first printmaking competition award in 2011 “Fourth Prize” The 8th Kochi International Triennial Exhibition of Prints (2011) and won prizes from many countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Russia, Canada, Thailand by mezzotint technique. After he graduated in 2014 he built his house to be a gallery and printmaking studio called Kalwit Studio & Gallery in the center of Bangkok city. He worked as a curator, Art director and then pass his gallery business to his brother. Then he turned back to become a full-time artist. 2019 is an important year because Wal's mezzotints was invited to be part of Davidson Galleries, USA and STPI Gallery, Singapore. Some of wal's work was later collected by Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook. In 2020 Wal sold some of his paintings to Bill Bensley the famous architect, Designer. Wal focus more on oil paintings nowadays Then was invited to be part of the Aurum Gallery which exhibit contemporary and street arts, the series was collected by 129 museum, which stores important national arts selected by Yaovanee Nirandara. Artist Statement Wal Chirachaisakul believes people especially current generation are monetarily driven and mistaken it for a remedy of their unhappiness in life. He very often in his art uses dark hue to symbolize how distanced those people are from enlightenment. The artist resorts to gothic and surrealistic approach which results a tensed mood in order to convey his message better. Being brought up in a darker environment, the dark mood of his works seems somewhat relatable and almost familiar to Wal. Despite all the negatives, the artist wishes that his artworks are nothing more but serve as a remembrance and awareness of this alarming phenomenon which are upon us. The subject metaphorically represents false hope to those who longed for eternal peace and tranquility. Hence, explains the endless chase for materialistic and wordly desire.
