お母さんの骨/ My mother's ashes

なんとなく憂鬱で怠惰な日々の中でふとした瞬間に居心地の良さや愛着を感じたり、家族との死別といった非日常的な悲しみや虚無感を感じる時でさえ、不意に面白いものが見えたり、好奇心を擽ることがある。そういったネガティブな状況の中で軽やかな感覚を引き起こしたものをモチーフに作品を制作している。モチーフは常に身近なもので、自分の経験に基づく物語や感情がある。作品はそれら感情を記録するもので自伝的なものである。

Negative things such as lazy, gloomy and melancholic feelings make me comfortable. Even in the midst of deep grief, such as a family bereavement, there are times when curiosity is aroused. I create works using things that caused a sense of lightness in such negative situations as motifs. I always take motifs from around myself, because I make my works based on my real experience. My work is a record of those feelings and is autobiographical.

永井麻友佳の作品は、日常の自身の生活を描いたものと、非日常の肉親の死に直面して墓や遺骨を描いたものの2種類です。どちらも「永井自身の事」でシームレスにつながっており、憂鬱の中に潜む軽やかさや可愛さ、「薄暗くて心惹かれるもの」を見つけて作品にしている。ネガティヴなモチーフから好奇心が湧いてくる瞬間を切り取っている。永井の絵画とは、現実や生と向き合いながら、そこに光を探そうとする眼差しそのものである。

Mayuka Nagai’s work either depict her own daily life, or the ashes and grave after facing the extraordinary death of her family. Both are personal to Nagai and are seamlessly connected, and she finds the lightness and cuteness hidden in despair – the gloomy things that draw her, to make into her art. She picks out the moments where curiosity emerges from negative motifs. Nagai’s paintings are the eyes that search for light, when confronting reality and life.
