Arakawa has long painted landscapes that seem to blend daily scenery with the subtle shifts of her own emotions. In her latest works, the colors feel more vivid, and the presence of her subjects appears more sharply defined. Even in ordinary days, various events unfold, and these inevitable changes may be compelling her to take a new direction.
“Foreground of a story” represents the small, daily moments that everyone accumulates. Yet, it is within these moments that true life exists, eventually layering and expanding to weave a grander world.

荒川朋子は1975年三重県生まれ。1998年愛知県立芸術大学美術学部油画専攻卒業。2009年名古屋造形大学大学院修士を修了後、三重県を拠点に絵画を制作している。
グリーンベースの荒川の絵画は、荒川の居住する環境から導き出されているのではないか。そのナチュラルな画面からは、穏やかで艶やかな光と、爽やかな風の動きと匂いが感じられるようである。目まぐるしく情報が交錯する世界を感じながら、自身の環境から導き出される絵画、それこそが荒川が感じるリアルな時代感なのだろう。
