日本人は京都が好きな人が多いが、それと同じように海外の古い街並みも好きな人は多いです。

ここで日本と海外の事情で異なるのは日本にはもうあまり古い街並が（欧米ほど）残っていないことです。

でもそれを了承したのは他でもない日本人。

戦後から現在まで奇跡的に残った財産ともいえる風景を経済復興の名の下で破壊し

「自由に」「個性的に」作られたのが現在の街並みです。

日本が豊かとされる時代に生まれた自分にとってなぜ日本はこのような選択をしてしまったのか。

そんなとき、偶然見かけた古い写真に強い衝撃を受けました。

なぜならその写真には今の日本人が好きな海外の風景の日本版がそこにはあったからです。

この作品の構成として、古い神戸の波止場の写真とほぼ同じであろう場所で現在の風景を撮影。

それを合成することで約100年前の風景をここまで変えてしまったという違いの認識と同時に

もし現在その風景が残っていたならこんな風に見えていたのかな？と想起してもらうことを

目的に、本作品を製作しました。

In Japan,

there are many people who like Kyoto but also those who like old town in foreign countries.

The difference between Japan and foreign countries is that, in Japan, there are not so many old towns left.

But it was Japanese people themselves who chose it.

Current “free” and “unique” town was made by destroying miraculously remained scenery after the war under the name of economic recovery.

I was born in Japan of wealthy age and why did Japanese make such decision?

When I was thinking such thing, I was shocked with an old photo I saw by chance.

Because it showed the Japanese version of the current Japanese people’s favorite foreign scenery.

As the structure of this artwork,

I took the picture of current scenery at where it seems to be the same place as in the old photo of Kobe port.

By mixing these 2 photos,

I tried to make viewers recognize how the scenery has changed and also how it would look if such scenery remained.
