The concept of the work In Taiwan, every religion performs various rituals after death. In the private sector, there is a legend that the deceased will return in the form of a bug on the 7th day after birth. Therefore, even if insects are sighted during a funeral, they are often not killed because they are believed to be incarnations of the deceased. Also, at the time of the funeral, relatives and friends burn the deceased's clothes, large amounts of banknotes, houses and daily necessities made of paper, and hope that the deceased can live a peaceful and prosperous life in that world. Born into a Taoist family, I have attended many Taoist funerals since I was a child. Burning things for the deceased and seeing insects spread their wings around the flame, I associated it with Hayami Mishu's “Fire Dance.” With delicate and exquisite colors, sparks and flying moths are depicted in a dark space. “Mugen” was created by taking inspiration from Hayami Mifune's “Fire Dance” and her own experience attending a funeral in Taiwan. Withering sunflowers symbolize death, and butterflies and moths fluttering below symbolize the souls of the deceased returning to the funeral. Also, in the distance, a pattern of banknotes burned for the dead is faintly depicted. I want to express my thoughts and blessings for the deceased at religious funerals in Taiwan through a hazy atmosphere. Putto
