Video
With an interest in the perceptive fluctuations, caused by changes in situations such as distance, position and timing, I create video, sculpture and installation works in which multiple motifs including my own body are layered together. In recent years, I have been taking the experiences and perceptions related to personal obsessions such as skin rashes and aichmophobia (the fear of sharp objects) as a starting point of my production. These processes are opportunities for my self-introspection, and are actions of exploring how to engage with others and the world.
The concept of the work
Essay fill created based on a diary written when evacuating to an evacuation center in response to the Noto earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, and photographs taken on the day
mu. Most of the shooting and editing of video production is done with an iPhone.
Testimonial
It was before seeing his artwork, that I heard of an artist with an overwhelming grip.
I don’t want to introduce Eisuke Kikkawa’s work using the word somatic. Perhaps it’s because he directly presents to viewers the actions that lie ahead of the damp self-confirmation like touching of the bumps of his own acne, rather than observing his body from the outside to understand it. Kikkawa’s trust of readily opening his palms to show them towards his viewers, may be possible because he is in fact strong. I hope that you look at his work, without tensing your hands.
