This work is inspired by the style of traditional daregasode folding screens. Instead of depicting kimono hanging on display stands after being worn, it uses actual kimono fabric from garments once worn by the owner of the work to depict a number of stands for pottery. Taking the form of a still life, it can also be seen as a portrait offering a glimpse at the character of the owner. Flower and insect motifs can he changed to be appropriate for the season. Ceramic vessels and utensils that appear to have emerged from the screen create connections that transcend space and time, alluding both to Japanese aesthetics and to the fact that the venue once functioned as the castle kitchen. As an installation, the juxtaposition of humanity and culture is both characteristic of the artist and highly site-specific, inextricably linked with Nijo—jo Castle.
