Reika Mishima

ContemporaryArtist

My work centers on the theme of “lightness.” The lightness I refer to here is not physical weight, but rather a sense of superficiality, emptiness, and carefree freedom.

While lightness is often viewed negatively, I find beauty and strength in it. I believe lightness possesses the power to effortlessly transcend fixed values and perspectives on life.

Currently, I am working on the “Perapera Humans” series and the “Specimens of Lightness” series. Through motifs such as people, still lifes, living creatures, and landscapes, I am exploring the beauty of “lightness.”

Born in Osaka.

Graduated from Kyoto City University of Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in oil painting in 2024. Activities under the name “Mishima Reika” will begin in 2025/6. Completed the master's degree in oil painting at Kyoto City University of Art Graduate School of Fine Arts in 2026. Currently, they are based in Osaka.

They are creating the “Perapera Human” series and the “Specimen of Lightness” series under the theme of “lightness.” The free way of being without being bound by hesitation or seriousness is captured as “lightness,” and its beauty is expressed.

The main exhibition history includes “ARTISTS' FAIR KYOTO 2026” (Kyoto National Museum Meiji Koto Hall, Kyoto) and “Kyoto Okazaki Art Project Exhibition” (Charm Premier Kyoto Okazaki, Kyoto). The main awards include “TURNER AWARD 2025” Future Award and “Kyoto Okazaki Art Project Exhibition” winners.
