Contenporary Artist
Motoko Mitō is a contemporary artist based in Kyushu. Her work has consistently focused on confronting pain and exploring memory and deterioration. She engages with social issues—including interdisciplinary approaches centered on art, archival preservation, regional challenges, gender, disability, social education, disaster recovery, and biodiversity—through her art practice.
Furthermore, drawing on her professional experience as a cultural property conservation technician and curator, as well as her practical involvement in cultural property preservation and participation in cultural property rescue efforts in disaster-stricken areas, she continues her activities by dedicating her life and time to “social sculpture”—a practice focused on the preservation of artworks and the transmission of memory in the contemporary era through works centered on the themes of “preservation” and “restoration,” while also addressing marginalized memories, individuals, and social issues.

Graduated from Oita University, Faculty of Education and Welfare Sciences, Information Society and Culture Program, Comprehensive Expression Course, 2011
Completed Master's Program in Art Education, Graduate School of Education, Oita University, 2014
