＜Biography＞
Born in 1982 in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Michiko Sakuta began her artistic journey with glass at Joshibi University of Art and Design, later pursuing advanced studies at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. After completing her degree, she balanced her creative practice with roles as a part-time instructor at Kanagawa Prefectural High Schools and Joshibi University. While her artistic activity was limited from her late 20s to mid-30s due to the demands of raising children, she returned to full-time practice in her late 30s after securing a shared studio.
Her current work centers on a conceptual pillar she carried with her during those quieter years: "projecting light and shadow onto glass." Glass is a material that reveals a multitude of expressions. Sakuta strives to draw out the inherent allure of the medium, engaging sincerely with its properties as she continues her artistic exploration.
