ここ2〜3年、北宋時代の徽宗皇帝作「桃鳩図」の技法に強く惹かれていた。

そこには立体性と平面性、リアリズムと装飾性といった相反する性質を一つに昇華されている。

私は、その圧倒的な筆捌きを現代にアップデートしようと模索していた。具体的には動物の毛を用いて表した独特な質感の色面表現がそれにあたる。この2つの作品では、その集大成のような質感が達成されているように感じる。しかし、最終的にはこれらの作品によってその希求を忘却することになった。

なぜなら構図がモノの存在を上回ったから、正確に言えばモノとモノの間、つまりは動物の顔と顔の間から様々な心象風景が生まれたからである。それが、本展に出品している虚 / Openという新たな作品を生んだ。

筆捌きが一気に変わった。

筆そのものが自立し、新たな模索への旅が始まった。

こちらを見つめる猿たちは、観る者を新たな領域へと誘う門、「玄関」なのだ。

For the past two or three years, I have been strongly attracted to the technique of “Peach Blossom and Dove” by Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song dynasty. Its contradictory qualities, such as three-dimensionality and flatness, realism, and decorativeness, are sublimed into one.

I seek to update the overwhelming brushwork to the present. Specifically, I used animal hair to express the unique texture of colored surfaces. In these two works, the culmination of this texture is perfectly represented. However, in the end, these works have made me forget this desire.

It is because the composition exceeded the presence of the objects. More precisely, I found various mental scenery created between the animal faces. It gave birth to a new work, “虚/ Open.”

My brushwork changed at once.

I released the brush and let it be independent. A new journey began.

The monkeys staring at me are a gateway, the “entrance” that invites the viewers into a new realm.
