「食べなければ生きていけない、その重要性と根源的な意味を現代人はどれほど理解しているであろうか」この札本の言葉に、思わずハッとさせられた。食品サンプルをモチーフとした札本の立体作品は、私たち人間が目を背けてきた問題、例えば食品の本質や現代の消費社会について強く訴えかけてくる。美味しそうに見えるのに決して食べられない作品は、どこまでも精巧で皮肉なまでに美しい。札本のユニークな発想と表現力、それを実現する確かな技術に私も驚かされたように、鑑賞者も圧倒されることだろう。

I was brought to a revelation with Fudamoto’s words – “We cannot live without eating, I wonder how many people of today understand the importance and fundamentality of this”. Fudamoto’s sculptures that take the shape of food samples, question us about the problems we have looked away from, such as the true nature of food, and our modern consumerist society. Her artwork that looks so appetising but cannot eat, are elaborate and ironically beautiful. Just as I was surprised by Fudamoto’s unique creativity and expression, and her definite skill of production, I believe that the viewers will also be overwhelmed.
