本展”Otherness: An Inventory of Desire (The Sunset)”は、文化的アイデンティティと文化的生産を綿密に探求するものである。いずれの作品も、多様なテーマとメディウムを通して、アイデンティティ、記憶、同化作用、移動、帰属といった領域における欲望の多面的な性質に焦点を当てている。このプロジェクトにおいて行われるのは、特に歴史的な物語、信仰、儀式、社会構造（structures）の複雑に絡み合った糸を解きほぐし、過去と現在の複雑な絡み合いを顕わにしようとする精緻な試みだ。アーティストは、地理的な調査とアッサンブラージュを用い、植民地支配が残した癒えない傷跡を浮かび上がらせ、「歴史の織物」ともいうべきタペストリーに深く刻み込む。
“Otherness: An Inventory of Desire (The Sunset)”は、忘れ去られた伝統の本質を呼び起こすことを目的とし、過去に生産され、使用されていた様々なマテリアルと隠喩的に関わるものだ。アーティストは、芸術的な創造性とストーリーテリングの手法を通して、植民地時代の遺産がアイデンティティと文化に与える永続的な影響を探求している。これらの作品に対峙する鑑賞者は、個人の欲望と集合的な記憶との間の複雑な相互作用を探究するよう促されるだろう。この探究は、植民地支配の影響下にあった歴史的な出来事が、社会の規範や価値観を通してどのように残響し続けているかを明らかにしながら、文化交流の微妙な地勢をなぞるものである。
ジャヌアリオの作品においては、伝統の復活とマテリアルに対する実験が強力なシンボルとして機能することで、アイデンティティ、記憶、同化、移動、帰属の重層性が表現されている。この展示は、文化やアイデンティティの構築に外部からの影響が深く影響していることを強調するだけでなく、宗教的イデオロギーが多様な文脈でどのように社会規範を形成してきたかについても、多角的な考察を促している。

Januario Jano is a visual artist from Luanda, Angola. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Goldsmiths, University of London, and is based in London, UK, Luanda, Angola, and Madrid, Spain. His work spans a wide range of fields, including sculpture, video, photography, textiles, sound installations, and performance. Januario Jano is a visual artist from Luanda, Angola. His work spans a wide range of fields, including sculpture, video, photography, textiles, sound installations, and performance. He participated in the First Biennial of African Photography in Spain, the 35th Bienal de São Paulo, and hiis work was also included in The Museum of African Art in Belgrade and Gallery Jean-Claude Maier in Frankfurt. Jano completed a residency at Deveron Projects and was selected for the Vantage Point Sharjah 9 project by the Sharjah Foundation. His work is in prominent collections around the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London, UK. In addition, Januairo is committed to cultural and social activities.
