Work Details
[Deer ~Through Moonlight~]
A deer carved one by one using camphor wood as a material.
While using a material with a strong presence called wood, it has created a unique shape with lightness and permeability by piercing countless holes in the body.
The white-finished body is accented with gold horns and hooves, and while it is a wood carving, it is a work that makes you feel a somewhat fantastic atmosphere.
A major characteristic of this work is that light passes through the body.
When light passes through the watermarks, delicate shadows are created around the work.
The expression of the shadows changes depending on the time of viewing and the direction of the light, creating a new expression not only in the work itself, but also in the surrounding space.
Not only does it “carve shapes,” it also “carves light and shadow.”
This is one of the expressions Ranjiro pursues through wood carving.
The warmth of the wood, the three-dimensional effect of the sculpture, the light from the watermarks, and the shadows projected on the wall.
Through an integrated deer, I expressed the lightness and quiet presence of life in nature.

RanjiroSculptor/Woodcarving/3DFocusing on wood carving, I create three-dimensional works that combine different materials such as powder, gold leaf, resin, and epoxy resin.Using animals and people as motifs, I capture not only the “shapes” created by carving wood, but also the “space” created by drilling, the “light” that shines into it, and even the “shadows” as part of the work. The warmth of wood, the white of the powder, the brilliance of gold leaf, and the depth of the transparent resin.By layering different materials, we aim to create a sense of life within a static sculpture.Animal works express the strength and serenity of each figure, such as tigers, dragons, deer, giraffes, and camels, and in character works, I create themes of memory, seasons, and life while combining natural objects such as flowers and fruits with human figures.Born in 1975 in Kumamoto. Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture, and completed a master's program at the same university graduate school. In addition to domestic exhibitions, they have received domestic and international activities and awards for chainsaw carving, and are currently based in Yamakita, Kanagawa.
