GALLERY ROOM・A, a commercial gallery operated by ArtSticker, is pleased to present imitation, a solo exhibition of new works by Kazuto Muraki, on view from Saturday, 4 July 2026.

This exhibition marks Muraki’s first solo presentation at GALLERY ROOM・A. Based in Tokyo, Muraki graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2025 and has since continued to develop his practice through a series of exhibitions and projects.

Drawing on popular culture, photography, and moving images as source material, Muraki explores the ways in which people perceive and assign meaning to images. His practice focuses not only on the motifs themselves, but also on their relationship to the viewer’s memories and experiences, examining the instability and fluidity of perception through painting.

In imitation, Muraki turns his attention to the influences and references that have shaped his artistic practice, taking as a point of departure the question: What does it mean to paint? By deliberately incorporating realist techniques and acts of imitation into his work, he reconsiders the boundaries between original and copy, creation and appropriation.

For Muraki, imitation is not merely an act of reproduction. Rather, it is through the subtle deviations that inevitably emerge in the process of painting that new forms of expression become possible. Focusing on these moments of divergence, the exhibition examines how artistic identity takes shape and reflects on the possibilities of painting in the contemporary moment.

Moving between influence and self-expression, imitation explores the creative potential that emerges through this ongoing negotiation. We warmly invite you to experience Kazuto Muraki’s latest body of work.
