The motif for this work is the Microsoft Windows XP (2001) wallpaper “Bliss,” which is said to be one of the “most viewed images in history.”
In contrast to the fact that works called masterpieces are firmly linked to the name of their author, “Bliss” is not generally known, despite its popularity, the name of the author (Charles O'Rear). In that sense, “Bliss” may be an image that symbolizes the present age integrated with digital space (where everyone is an author, and therefore cannot be found by others).
Until now, Katsuki has chosen things that only exist in digital spaces, such as “cursors,” as motifs for her works. “Bliss” is an actual California landscape, but this work was selected as a digital motif for PC wallpaper, and it is positioned as a work linked to Katsuki's “Cursor” series.
