Water springs begin to flow
45.5×45.5×2cm
wood panel, arche watercolor paper, acrylic paint, gloss burnished finish
2024
I depicted the midpoint of the Minor Cold period, one of the seventy-two micro-seasons within the twenty-four solar terms, known as “Water Springs Stir.”
Even amidst the harsh cold, the water temperature in the springs gradually warms, and the frozen ice begins to move with the flow.
I painted this feeling encouragement from nature: that even in severe conditions, nothing remains unchanged forever. Just as spring gradually arrives, the harshness also eases slowly.
Change is the only constant, no matter the era.
Especially in these rapidly changing times, people's values and perspectives shift so quickly it often leaves us bewildered.
Yet nature remains universally present beside us, steadily changing seasons and transforming landscapes.
Sometimes it offers insights, teaching us something.
As an attempt to give form to these thoughts, I began painting the Twenty-Four Solar Terms.
