Artist information
Aoi Honjo
Born in 1993.
Scheduled to enroll in the Master’s Program (Doctoral Course, First Phase) in the Japanese Painting Department at Tama Art University in April 2020.
The artist works using iwa-enogu, pigments made by crushing mineral stones, and creates works that emphasize the unique textures achievable only with these mineral pigments.
Recently, the artist has been using iwa-enogu to depict the sky. The sky feels as though it conveys the power of nature, the beauty of the passage of time, happiness, love, and destiny—much like the artist’s own life. The sky is different every day. It speaks each day. Its many expressions are never seen the same way twice. Through painting, the artist expresses the happiness that exists close to these fleeting moments.
