True to Life

Everyone lives with contradictions — no one is perfect.

Even though I pursue a world that is “true to life,” the reality I depict is full of distortion and noise.

This uncertainty itself is what feels real to me now.

The vague discomfort or wordless emotions that suddenly appear in daily life blur the line between reality and imagination, dissolving into the atmosphere like an anonymous presence.

Drips of spray paint and bleeding colors reflect the uncontrollable aspects of life.

By intentionally leaving behind imperfections and fluctuations, I express the subtle emotions and invisible noise that each person carries —

the desire, impulse, and envy that quietly seep into space through ordinary gestures.

I portray the beauty of being incomplete, simply existing in that state,

layering everyday scenes with inner noise, to reveal a fragile yet honest sense of reality.

SHUN NAKAO

Visual Artist

visual artist and painter whose work explores the tension between personal memory and cultural imagery. Influenced by 1980s–90s fashion, music, manga, and anime, his practice captures subtle emotional dissonance and urban atmosphere. He uses layered techniques with spray paint, acrylic, and dripping to reflect unfiltered feelings, atmospheric shifts, and everyday noise. In his "True to Life" series, he blurs the boundaries between reality and imagination, revealing the quiet strength of imperfection and the unresolved emotions of modern life.
