この作品は、西洋の卓上の静物画として近年制作をしていた床上の静物画の対の作品として制作をしています。
床上の静物画が画面全面をものが存在し得る空間とするなら、西洋の静物画は卓上のみがものが存在し得る空間になります。背景の空間や手前の空間は絵画内に広がる空間であり、同時に絵画と見る人を分けるように働きます。
それは絵画を窓と表現をした西洋絵画に通じるものだと思います。
