Work Details
Concept and production intention of the work “Light Shield Clay Figure Restoration Illustration (Kamegaoka Ruins, Tsugaru City, Aomori Prefecture)”
colored linen, 130.3 x 80.3 cm (m60)
With the exception of a few examples, almost all of the clay figurines express images of women. Archaeological research is being carried out through excavations and discoveries about what it was made for. What is the pattern of a human clay figure with a tied head, hairpin, hair ornament, and body
It is thought that people wear clothing, tattoos, and ornaments on their necks, ears, etc. There are also many things with earthenware patterns in them. There are differences in earthenware patterns depending on the region and season, and both earthenware and clay figurines are made using clay and burned in the open with firewood.
Restore the original three-dimensional figures of the human clay figurines and draw a two-dimensional “clay figurine restoration map.” I imagined the original person from clay figurines representing women.
The background is taken from the Heian period arrival map based on the Pure Land faith.
This clay figure is called a “light shield” clay figure because of the shape of its eyes. Actually, it seems that it was an expression of emphasis on the eyes. Here, eyes are crushed in strong light, or blocked with a “light shield.”
Taking advantage of the gray-brown color and impregnation of the linen cloth, I contrasted gold, which shines radially, against blurred with water and undersaturated tones.
When it comes to the Jomon period, works that many people think of (or only know flame-shaped earthenware) have been restored and imitated from the Kamegaoka ruins, and works burned outdoors with bonfires in the same way as in the Jomon period are also published and sold.
