Born in 1981 in Fukuoka. He studied sculpture expression at Kyushu Sangyo University and completed graduate school at Tokyo University of the Arts.
While in school, he mainly worked on research on sculptures using stone, composed works with academic modeling and music as motifs, and created works with a sense of tension that shakes the state of sculpture in the present day.

Three-dimensional works that capture the “impulse” that comes from within as an important element, and while using artificial materials such as scrap materials and concrete, maintain strength as “things” that are by no means light are characteristic.

It is a bricolage production style that I arrived at during my two-and-a-half year stay in New York from 2012, and I face materials while repeating “destruction and restoration,” and explore the formative beauty contained within the passage of time.

■Interview planning

A serial project to ask current artists about their works and the other side of production.

We asked Osamu Ono, who explores the state of sculptural expression through the process of destruction and restoration, about the concept of the work and his future goals.
