Video
With an interest in the perceptive fluctuations, caused by changes in situations such as distance, position and timing, I create video, sculpture and installation works in which multiple motifs including my own body are layered together. In recent years, I have been taking the experiences and perceptions related to personal obsessions such as skin rashes and aichmophobia (the fear of sharp objects) as a starting point of my production. These processes are opportunities for my self-introspection, and are actions of exploring how to engage with others and the world.
This video was created by capturing the work called “molding,” which is mainly performed to transfer the shape of an object through three-dimensional modeling, etc., as a method of “likening the body to a mountain” and “restraining the body.” I thought it would be possible to create a work without moving, and came up with the idea. The video is taken of Yoshikawa's body being reclaimed with gypsum as a “mountain” from the side, and then reproduced in reverse. As time passes, the sediment is peeled off and the appearance of a white object like a snowy mountain changes, and finally the buried body is revealed. The attempt to deposit gypsum and turn the body into a mountain, and trembling as a biological reaction that goes against it are superimposed on the existence of mountains where various life activities are actually carried out and continue to move constantly, even though they are captured as a symbol of immobility due to their size and universality.
