I create work about unpleasant and pleasant emotions.
The scale and intensity of feeling disgust or unpleasantness and its subject, varies from person to person. Usually we take negative actions such as of avoidance or removal when we experience disgust. This is often accompanied by pleasant emotions such as curiosity and anticipation. We may also reapproach the subject whilst feeling unpleasant. I choose to paint things that stir the image of negative actions, or stimulate such emotions.

At first glance, Fukuda’s paintings captivate with their striking visual impact, yet this initial clarity is deceptively fleeting. What appears to be a singular, identifiable form quickly unravels, revealing layers of complexity that elude immediate recognition. This shift invites the viewer on a dynamic visual journey, where elements fuse in an intricate interplay of sight and touch, encouraging personal connections and interpretations.

Sensually rich and conceptually engaging, Fukuda’s work evokes curiosity—a drive to question, to explore beyond the surface. These paintings challenge our perceptions, asking us to reconsider our relationship with materiality in a culture that often leans toward uniformity and homogeneity. Ultimately, Fukuda’s art is an invitation to probe beneath appearances, embracing the mysteries hidden within.
