shelf stands for bookshelf.
Theatre Company shelf is known for 1) its way of capturing the contemporary and aesthetic sense of space and time and 2) its performance style that radiates energy created by the actors’ silence on stage.
shelf’s work has received international acclaim -- For example, GHOSTS-COMPOSITION/IBSEN was invited to be part of the official programs of The International Ibsen Festival 2014. Also in November 2015, [deprived], produced in collaboration with Thai local artists in Bangkok, Thailand, was nominated for Best Script at the Bangkok Theatre Festival. Furthermore, its first China tour of its production of Hedda Gabler in 2018 visited five cities and one village (Wuhan, Nanjing, Shanghai, Beijing, and Jinan Fangyu) and participated in The Wuhan 403 New Youth Theatre Festival, The Beijing Fringe Festival, and The Jinan Fangyu ART Festival.

Biography
The company believes that theater and performing arts in general are events (communication) that occur at the interface between individuals and communities, and at the same time, they are media that have pursued the form of that communication and continued to examine how they are involved. The main base of operations is Tokyo. There are four company members. (As of October 2024)
In August 2008, Yuko Kawabuchi, an actor affiliated with the company, won the Toga Theater Competition 2008 (Best Theater Artist Award) for the Toga performance of "Little Eyolf" (written by Henrik Ibsen). In the same year, she won the Nagoya City Arts Festival 2008 (Judges' Special Award) for the same work's Nagoya performance (venue: Nanatsudera Joint Studio). In October 2011, she won the Nagoya City Arts Festival 2011 (Nagoya City Arts Festival Award) for "Composition/Ibsen (from "Ghosts")" (venue: Nanatsudera Joint Studio). In September 2014, "GHOSTS-COMPOSITION/IBSEN" was invited to the Norwegian National Theatre Amphisien as an official program of the International Ibsen Festival 2014 (organized by the Norwegian National Theatre). In November 2015, he was invited to the Low Fat Art Fest held in Bangkok, Thailand. His work "deprived", which he produced during his stay in Bangkok and collaborated with local artists, was nominated for "Best Script of a Play" at the Bangkok Theater Festival. In 2018, his representative work "Hedda Gabler" toured China for the first time. It was performed in five Chinese city villages (Wuhan, Nanjing, Shanghai, Beijing, and Fangyu Village). He was invited to participate in the Beijing International Youth Theater Festival, the Wuhan New Youth Theater Festival, and the Shandong Fangyu Village Theater Festival.
