Artist
Born in Tokyo in 1967, Graduated from the Department of Three-Dimensional Design at Tama Art University in 1990. In 2019, he was based in Berlin as a trainee in the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Overseas Study Program for Emerging Artists.
Homma’s practice explores the concept of “invisibility” embedded in the world. By introducing invisible elements into the visible realm, his works draw attention to hidden histories, customs, and social systems. Working mainly with sculpture and installation, he has continued to develop site-specific projects in Japan and internationally since 2000. For Homma, imagination and insight into what cannot be seen are ways of engaging with the past and opening possibilities for the future.
In recent years, his work has focused on series that place the creation and destruction of anonymous objects on a single timeline, and on works that evoke the uncertainty and invisibility of history and time through objects divided into boxes.

この作品シリーズは、風景の写真をUVプリントしたアルミニウムの一部を削り取り、鏡面になるまで磨いた作品です。消失した空間に残欠のように漂うイメージは、近代の歴史遺産、帰宅困難地域、何気ない日常など、私が訪れ記録した風景です。写真として切り取った時間（イメージ）を削る、磨くなどの彫刻的な加工を加え鏡面にすることで、常に更新していく「今」を映し出す作品です。「見えないもの＝不可視性」の探究をテーマにしてきた私の作品の多くは、背景に同化する、隠れる、欠落するなど、作品それ自体が不可視性を含む構造を持っています。それは可視と不可視の領域で構成されているこの世界の構造をなぞると同時に、不可視な部分を意識させ、隠れた歴史や過去の生活、社会制度を再認識させる試みでもあります。
「侵食の風景」のシリーズは2019年にベルリン滞在時に制作を開始し、幾つかの場所で発表してきました。大きいサイズのものも制作しましたが、ここに出品している作品は一般的な住宅などにもフィットする大きさです。
