NAKAMURA Hanae

I was born in 1990 in Abashiri-gun, Hokkaido. I graduated from the Joshibi University of Art and Design Department Printmaking Course in 2013, and completed Joshibi University of Art and Design Graduate School (Printmaking Research Area) in 2015.

Expressions using screenprints and digital prints are incorporated into my works, and in recent years I have continued to produce and present on themes of ambiguity and sensory fluctuations.

I am interested in the uncertainty of information obtained through sight and in the phenomena that arise from it, which have led me to develop a body of work using these as starting points.

By reflecting on the images and processes generated during production and relating them to the existing structures and rules that underlie our daily lives, I aim to reveal the unconscious perceptions and subtle discomfort people feel toward what is considered “normal.”

Through this practice, I feel that I am gradually coming to understand my own position.
