Painter

I began painting in February 2025 while working as a pediatric nurse.
Since childhood, I’ve found comfort in a quiet inner world—one that words couldn’t fully express.
Through paint and canvas, I discovered a way to give form to that world and share it with others.

My work captures emotions, memories, and subtle sensations that exist beyond language.
Using brushes, fingers, glass, and flowing pigments, I embrace both intention and chance, valuing the unique moments that emerge in the process.

In nursing, I witness both the beauty and fragility of life.
This deepens my desire to create art that offers quiet light and speaks to the invisible parts of the human heart.
For me, painting is not only expression, but connection.

Profile

Biography

Ai Akaike (Libeka)
Born in 1996, originally from Ōita Prefecture and currently based in Fukuoka, Japan.
After graduating from a nursing university, she began working as a pediatric nurse. In February 2025, she launched her career as a painter. While engaging with life and death in the medical field, she creates abstract artworks that express delicate emotions and wordless sensations through color and texture. Since childhood, she has found comfort in immersing herself in imagined worlds, and painting became a means to visualize and share those inner landscapes.

In her creative process, she uses brushes, fingers, glass fragments, and fluid pigments—embracing both intentional gestures and moments of chance. Her work is rooted in emotional instinct and deep introspection, often centered around themes such as “fragments of feeling,” “echoes of memory,” and “the presence before words.” Each piece captures fleeting expressions that cannot be replicated, inviting viewers to interpret them freely and personally.

Underlying her work is a quiet belief: that even in stillness, light persists.
She often portrays the coexistence of contrasting elements—such as light breaking through a gray world, or the strength within fragility. Her experience as a nurse lends a profound awareness of the preciousness of life, and this perspective deeply informs her artistic expression.

Currently based in Fukuoka, she continues to share her evolving visual language through solo and group exhibitions, as well as online platforms. Her practice resists strict categorization, aiming instead to gently lift into form that which simply “exists”—silent, invisible, yet undeniably present.
