ノエミーザ・バチスタ・ドス・サントスは1947年にミナスジェライス州ジェキチニョニャ渓谷のカライー市郊外に生まれた。幼い頃、土鍋作り職人の母親から粘土の扱い方を学んだ。洗礼や婚姻の場面など、息を呑む美しさをもつ独自のテーマとスタイルを生み出した。タバチンガという白色粘土だけを用いて、テラコッタの色調にコントラストをつける。彼女の作品は花などのディテールがメインテーマと拮抗して目を引くのが特徴。有名で、地元でも指折りの創造的な作家として知られるが、孤立し困窮した生活を送っている。

Noemisa Batista dos Santos was born in 1947 in the vicinity of Caraí, in Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais. Very young, she learned to mold clay with her mother, who was a pan maker. She created her own style and themes, with scenes of baptism and marriage of stunning beauty. Only using tabatinga branca (a kind of soil), she obtains contrasting effects on the tone of the baked clay. The flowers and other details compete with the main theme for the eyes’ attention, which makes her work particular. Although well-known and renowned as one of the most creative artists of her region, he lives isolated and in difficult economical conditions.

Noemisa Batista dos Santos nasceu nas cercanias de Caraí, no Vale do Jequitinhonha, em Minas Gerais, em 1947. Muito jovem, aprendeu a modelar o barro com a mãe, que era paneleira. Criou estilo e temática próprios, com cenas de batizado e casamento de impactante beleza. Utilizando apenas a tabatinga branca obtém efeitos contrastados sobre o tom do barro cozido. Em suas obras, as flores e outros detalhes disputam a atenção do olhar com o tema principal, o que particulariza seu trabalho. Apesar de muito conhecida e reputada como uma das mais criativas artistas de sua região, vive isolada e em condições econômicas difíceis.
