OKETA COLLECTION

桶田俊二・聖子夫妻が2000年代より始めたコレクション。長年、ファッションビジネスに携わってきた夫妻が、骨董の収集からスタートし、2010年、草間彌生の作品との出会いをきっかけに、コンテンポラリーアートの本格的なコレクションへと大きく踏み出した。「一目惚れ（love at first sight）」のように強くインスパイアされた作品をピックアップする桶田夫妻のセンスが、時代を反映したユニークなコレクションを形成している。

日本の作家は草間彌生、村上隆、奈良美智、名和晃平といったトップ・アーティストたちからごく若い世代まで幅広く、また海外の作家の作品は、ゲルハルト・リヒター、ヴォルフガング・ティルマンス、ジョージ・コンドなど巨匠の逸品から、ファッション、ストリート・カルチャーとアートをまたいで活躍するヴァージル・アブロー、カウズといった作家たちの作品まで、勢いのあるラインナップが桶田コレクションの特徴である。

2016年より毎年、限定公開にてコレクション展を開催。現代アートと合わせて骨董や盆栽も展示、時空を超えた桶田コレクションの多様性を印象付けてきた。2019年4月には、初めての一般公開となる「OKETA COLLECTION: LOVE@FIRST SIGHT」展を東京で開催し、12日間で約12,000人の来場者を集めた。（INSTAGRAM @oketacollection）

The Oketa Collection consists of works acquired by Shunji and Asako Oketa since the 2000s. The Oketas have long been involved in the fashion business. They Started by collection antiques and later progressed to the full-scale collection of contemporary art after encountering the works by Yayoi Kusama, intuitively identifying typical works from the most active period of each artist and works showing a high level of completeness. Furthermore, focusing on powerful and emerging artists today, the couple collects highly inspired works, “love at first sight.” These distinct artists and artworks reflect the times and give the collection its unique nature.

An invitation only exhibits of the collection were held in 2016, 2017 and 2018, presenting Japanese top artists like Gutai and art informal artists, Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara and Kohei Jawas, and younger artists. It also has included worldwide artists like Gerhard Richter, Wolfgang Tilmans, and many more artists who lead artistic trends in New York and Los Angelesm along with antique pieces and Bonsai, expressing somewhat unique combinations. Oketa Collection has its viewing room in Tokyo (by appointment only).
