作品詳情

Modern housing for workers, which originated in the West, succeeded in forming a standardized architectural style. While privacy was protected as a matter of course, the residents became isolated, and they had no firm roots.

While protecting people's privacy, apartment complexes that dilute relationships with society seem like they are trying to adapt by dropping their feet on their own to the worries that slaves suffered under medieval slavery (the point where their existence does not remain as a trace in society).

The residents living in our island nation don't have enough energy to rebel against the structures of language and architecture that govern our lives, and they don't really raise voices of help. In response to the vaguely approaching end, they try to resist or flee with their own gestures while harboring longing for somewhere far away that is not here.

This was the first time we focused on the existence of an “idiot ship” described by Foucault as a possibility of escaping or connecting to the outside. It is said that before lunatics began to be confined to spaces such as confinement facilities, jails, and hospitals, people who couldn't adapt to society were moved from city to city on ships. It has a part that resonates with our current lives, and I think we can find light in that possibility without categorically denying a kind of madman.

They laughed off sicknesses and fearful beings like lunatics, and created furniture “sink” and “tableware” as a base to protect themselves.
