Concept and Intention of the Artwork

I have been creating artworks with the theme of “Hokori no su”. In my words, “Hokori no su” means when a spider leaves its webs unattended for a long time, causing dust particles to accumulate over time.

To me, “Hokori no su” symbolizes the border between this world and the other world. For example, we are surrounded by air. However, we can’t see the air with our naked eyes. In the same way, sometimes I think to myself “Even though we can’t see it, what if another world or dimension exists near us?”. The border between our world and the world that we can’t see but coexist is what I call “Hokori no su”.

The idea of “Hokori no su” acting as a border between a different world comes from the influence of a movie that I watched many times as a child. It's a movie where the main character, an archeologist, embarks on a journey to solve the mysteries of ancient ruins.

In the ruins, everywhere he went, there was a “Hokori no su”. Particularly in Series 3, in the ruins where the Holy Grail lies, he has to pass through several “Hokori no su” before reaching the room where a knight guards the Holy Grail. To me, those veil-like “Hokori no su” seemed like a boundary between multiple different worlds.

A different world may exist only in my imagination, but that world brings me happiness and also brings a feeling where it hurts my heart, and I can’t help but draw the people and the scenery on the other side.

Born in Tokyo, 1978. Currently studying at Musashino Art University, Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Oil Painting.
Works are mainly created using a mixed technique of oil paints, dermatograph, and tempera. Since 2022, “Hokori no su” depicts the border of coexisting multidimensional worlds as a collection of thin lines. By using skulls and not limiting facial expressions or racial characteristics, the viewer will be able to imagine a figure in another dimension, like a mirror image.
