作品詳情

Concept and Intention of the Artwork

Inadequacy explores expressions of subtle emotional disruptions through simple geometric shaped blown glass sculptures with their inner membranes. The hollow glass sculpture is a metaphor of a human body/mind, in the action of making, I push and poke on soft and hot glass surfaces creating random patterns inside of the glass membranes. The gesture of making process represents slight discomforts and moments of disruptions that are easily dismissed in our daily life, however it echos around once we realize them.

Production Time

3 hours(blowing glass in a hotshop)+3 hours(finishing up with grinding glass)

Production Location

I gather and blow glass in a place called a hotshop, where is literally hot like 122 degrees in fahrenheit or 50 degrees in celsius. Molten glass is more than 2000 degrees in fahrenheit or 1200 degrees in celsius, I use a steel pipe and exhale my breath into molten glass to create my works. This work was made in North Carolina in the United States during my artist in residency period.

She is currently a craft practitioner fellow at Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo in Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture, Japan.
