Multipress is a non-profit publisher for artist books and publications based in Oslo, Norway. With an emphasis on photography, it is run as a platform for artists working with publications as an artistic practice. All of the book projects are a result of a collaborative effort, thoroughly working out all the elements specific to each project.

Line Bøhmer Løkken - "Choreography with Potatoes and Flour"

Choreography with Potatoes and Flour consists of a pile of folded sheets in various sizes. We find ourselves located in a baking house with an older man baking lefse and flatbread. The book object is soft and light with a porous texture. It does not immediately give you the full understanding of the project. Like an uneven stack of lefse, the floating unbound sheets that make up the book are held together by a wide banderol. The viewer’s hand must be an active participant in the approach when engaging with the images on each page. The working hand and the seeing hand can meet here, in the fold.

Margareta Bergman - "bladi losnar"

"bladi losnar (leaves leave)" exposes a visual intimacy that evades interpretation and instead becomes physical experience. It examines the uncontrolled, uncoded gaze, with images that mixes and weaves into one another. A flow which is constantly changing direction, creating an introspective, melancholic atmosphere interspersed with humor and absurdity.The images are both obscure and immediate, with the lucid logic of dreams. An anti-authoritarian jumble, using distraction and the accidental to disrupt rational thinking.

Mariken Kramer - "I hide myself within my flower"

The book consists of both photographs and text. The photographs depict various plants picked in the meadow and on the hillside of the mountain farm Lie, 900 meters a.s.l. The texts are fragments of a larger story, memories from Kramer’s past, reactivated in the final months of her mother’s life and during the vigil at her deathbed. Each paragraph is numbered in the same way as the photographs and bear the name of the plants depicted. The book’s design and references bring to mind presentations of flora in botanical books and herbariums. But the images can also be understood with reference to still life genre, especially the vanitas motif, which remind us of the inevitability of death and transience of life.

Marte Aas - "Ducks in a Row"

The artist book/monograph that thematizes five different films and a number of art projects made by Marte Aas in the years 2017 to 2023, whose focus and scope is differing yet encompassed by the investigation of and deep interest in technology and how it shapes our lives, bodies and politics. Ducks in a Row comes together as a book made from the cacophony of the artistic process with multiple different points of entry and lines of thought. The ducks are seen through the lens of a sort of mutant body-machine: the camera-woman, whose eye guides the process. The book is thus a comprehensive documentation of film work, still images, sketches and research material from Aas’ art production relating to this body of work.

Siri Ekker Svendsen - "All the whisperings of the world"

The book examines the visual connections between nature’s vulnerability and the effects of an allergic shock to the body. To accomplish this, the artist takes us on a journey to contemporary rainforest areas in South America—the locus of this process is the Brazil nut. The book weaves images via microscope and scientific research with Svendsen’s classic black and white photographs, revealing the human body within an ecosystem of complex interdependency. Visualizing this fragile connection, the project raises essential questions for a species learning in real-time about its irrefutable interconnectedness with the planet.
