これまで私はジェンダーをテーマに彫刻作品を制作してきました。日常に蔓延る違和感に目を向けて、我々の中にある潜在的な暴力性について考えています。見えにくい、あるいは見ようとしない問題だからこそ、物と物とが拮抗するバランス感覚を大切にしながら、作品として可視化します。ジェンダーに関しては誰もが当事者であるはずです。作品を通して問題意識を広げていくのが狙いです。

The theme of my sculptural work is gender.Looking at the discomfort of everyday life, I think about the potential violence within us all.As gender issues are hard to see, or people don’t want to see them, I visualize them through my work, being careful about the balance between materials.All people are involved in gender issues. I want to expand people’s awareness towards this issue through my work.

岩瀬さんは、今にも倒れそうな大きな天秤を、髪の毛を編み込んだロープで支えた彫刻を作っていた。春から秋田に引っ越し、地元にも慣れたのか京都にいたときよりも生き生きとしている。「公園のスプリング遊具を作ろうかな」と奇抜なアイディアを出したかと思うと、髪の毛をどのように作品のなかで扱うのかをずっと思案している。岩瀬さんは、バランス感覚に長けている。そして、その造形の振り幅は、どんどんと大きくなってきた。

Iwase was creating a sculpture, of a huge scale that would tip over in any second, supported by a rope with human hair woven in. Since moving to Akita in spring, perhaps the area is more comfortable because he looks happier than when he was in Kyoto. Though suddenly coming up with eccentric ideas, like creating a spring equipment from the playground, he is always thinking about how to incorporate hair into his artwork. Iwase has a great sense of balance; the amplitude of his sculptures is getting larger and larger.
