他者の体験をどれだけ想像しても、その主体と同じ感覚を得られることはできない。意識の主観的な性質は、科学的な客観性の中には還元することができないとしたアメリカの哲学者トマス・ネーゲルによる、コウモリにとって「コウモリであるとはどのようなことか」という問いは、今でも難題である。そこで想像した他者からの眺めの主たるは、何者になり得るのだろうか。
No matter how much we try to imagine another person's experience, we cannot achieve the same sensibility as the subject. According to the American philosopher Thomas Nagel, who suggested that the subjective nature of consciousness cannot be reduced to scientific objectivity, it would be difficult for a bat to consider a question like, "What is it like to be a bat?" In that case, what can the subject become when imagined by another person?
