絵を描くことは、大切にしている宝物をこっそり見せたり、ふと見つけたものを思いがけなく気に入り、見て！という行為に似ている。誰かに、何かに触れるということは許されているということだと思う。そのことをたびたび忘れている。大事なものひとつも取り零さないで抱きしめたいけれど、 そんなに沢山持てるだろうか?それともひとつだけを選び取るのだろうか?絵画のなかで逡巡している。

Drawing is similar to the action of secretly showing the treasures that you cherish, or wanting to share something you unexpectedly found and liked. I think it’s permissible for someone to touch something. I often forget that. I want to embrace everything that is important without dropping a thing, but is it possible to hold so much? Or will I pick just one out? I am hesitating inside my paintings.

土取郁香の代表作と言える、親密な二人の姿を描く「I and You」シリーズ。高度に抽象化されたモチーフをベースに、ラッカースプレーなどを用いた叙情的な絵画が注目を浴びています。作品の中で人や物を分つそれぞれの線は曖昧に描かれており、そのおぼろげな境界線はどれだけ寄り添っても触れることのできない物事の核心のように、自己と他者の関係性を浮き彫りにしています。
