Oil-based ink on Hahnemühle paper
Edition
I repeat the process of observing and depicting only the surface level of my motifs, arranging motifs with shared properties on the canvas, guided by the formats of specimens and monozukushi [cataloguing related items]. I experiment with placing a stronger focus on the idea of the surface itself in my recent work by using decorative materials such as rhinestones and sequins. I explore the potentials of two-dimensional expressions through my practice.
Testimonial
Whilst her motifs of faces and still life are classical, an excitement and joy towards creation can be seen through her efforts in variations of painting methods and decorative play. Moreover, I could feel a strong will to live as an artist from her, which pushed me to this commendation. I believe that she will be able to harvest many things after AFK, and make the best of it for the future.

My work centers on the theme of “lightness.” The lightness I refer to here is not physical weight, but rather a sense of superficiality, emptiness, and carefree freedom.
While lightness is often viewed negatively, I find beauty and strength in it. I believe lightness possesses the power to effortlessly transcend fixed values and perspectives on life.
Currently, I am working on the “Perapera Humans” series and the “Specimens of Lightness” series. Through motifs such as people, still lifes, living creatures, and landscapes, I am exploring the beauty of “lightness.”
