「何百年も昔から存在する加工法と現代のマテリアルがリンクすると何が生まれるのか。」そんなふとした疑問から本プロジェクトは始まりました。

近所のホームセンターで簡単に手に入る塩ビ管。回転させながらゆっくりと熱し、一方の口に蓋をしてもう片方から空気を送り込むと花器がひとつ出来上がります。

それはまるで吹きガラスのように、型の形状や空気の圧力・塩ビ管表面から逃げる熱の速度など、ひとつが出来上がるまでにいくつもの要因が関係し成形されます。量産され安価で売られている素材でも、ひと手間加えることでこれまでにはない新しい価値を与えられるのではないでしょうか。

“What will be happen if an old manufacturing process meets cheap and mass-produced material? ”This project came about as a result of my curiosity with the above question.

Plastic pipes, basically used for distributing water, are easily available at local DIY stores. By applying air pressure into a closed pipe, which was slowly warmed by a heater to make it soft, my flower vase was born. As with glassblowing, many factors such as the shape of the mould, air-pressure and the speed of heating the pipe's surface, affect the shape of an object.

Even though it's mass produced and cheap material, I believe that the hand-making process gives the pipe a new value by transforming it into a well-made object.
