Gil Kuno

NAMIURA

日本を代表する浮世絵師、北斎。彼の代表作、「神奈川沖浪裏」は神奈川沖から横浜方向に向かった風景を描いているとのことです。
Gil Kuno作の「NAMIURA」は波の動きをアナログスクリーンに落とし込んだ作品。青と白の物理的なドットが回転し、波が揺らいでいるシーンが表現されています。
さざなみを彷彿とさせるサラサラとした音はドットがひるがえるメカ音。ピクセル画のような、レトロゲームを想起させる作品です。
NAMIURAにはパソコンが内包されており、プログラムで何千もの電磁石をコントロールし、ドットをひるがえす仕掛けになっております。

Hokusai is known worldwide for his Ukiyoe prints. His most famous work, “Kanagawa Oki Namiura” depicts waves in the Kanagawa Bay, looking in the Yokohama direction.
Gil Kuno’s NAMIURA displays reflections of the moon over the ocean on an analog flip-dot screen. Blue and white dots flip to show the moon traversing a deep blue night ocean.
The slight trickling sound (reminiscent of water) is the mechanical sound of the flip-dot mechanism. The retro feel of the piece is reminiscent of an 8-bit game from the 80s.
NAMIURA contains a personal computer which controls thousands of electromagnets which in turn flip the dots.

SKY

空を横切る雲の映像をアナログスクリーンに落とし込んだ本作。
青と白の物理的なドットが回転し、真っ青な空を横切っていく雲の姿が表現されています。

そよ風を彷彿とさせるサワサワとした音はドットがひるがえるメカ音。ピクセル画のような、レトロなゲームを想起させる作品です。

Skyにはパソコンが内包されており、コードで何千もの電磁石をコントロールし、ドットをひるがえす仕掛けになっております。
