『おわりを知り、はじまりを知り得る』#1

私にとって描くことは、自己が世界を獲得する行為です。 事故と病気により描けなくなった私は、作家として「終わった」と感じました。 ある日、病室で見た雲の変化に「はじまりもおわりもない」と気づかされ、100均の紙に左手で点描し始めました。 点は次第に塊を成し、大気の流動やエネルギーを感じる造形を獲得しながら膨張しはじめました。 そして、医療に消費される豚の死を自覚した時、私と豚は分かち難いものになり、ここに私の「はじまり」を描こうと決めました。 描かれた無数の墨点と豚の皮膚の生きた痕跡から生まれた絵画によって、描き手の”生”と遠ざけたいはずの”死”が生々しくあらわになったのです。 こうして“私の絵画”のはじまりと出逢うことができたのです。

Drawing for me, is an act of the self acquiring the world. I thought I had “ended” as an artist, not being able to paint anymore due to an accident and illness. One day, I was made to realize there was “no beginning and no end” to the changes in the clouds I saw from my hospital room, and began dotting with my left hand on paper from a one-coin store. The dots gradually formed a mass and began to expand, acquiring shapes that reflected the flow and energy of the atmosphere. And when I realized the death of the pigs that were consumed for medical purposes, I became something inseparable from pigs, and decided to paint my “beginning” here. The paintings created from the countless ink dots and living traces of the pig’s skin, vividly reveal the artist’s “life” and the “death” he supposedly should want to keep away from. This is how I was able to meet the beginning of “my paintings”.

日本画から出発し、近年「自分の絵」の大もとを探り出して飛躍を遂げた。一時期事故で筆が持てなくなった作者の痛みから出現したそれは、苦しみもがく神のようでもあり、高みに上る気流のようでもある。そもそも掴めない空、大気、雲を、従来の「図」に陥いらず、まっさらな場所から造形することは出来るのか。問いながら無心に繰り返した会心の作品群だ。

With an origin in Japanese painting, he recently made a leap forward by discovering the roots of his own paintings. What appeared from the artist’s pain of temporarily not being able to hold a brush due to an accident, is like a suffering struggling god, and also like a current of air reaching into the heights. Is it even possible to create the intangible sky, atmosphere or clouds from a new place without falling into the conventional depiction? These gratifying works are of innocent repetition and questioning.
