刀 壱 | Katana No.1

もともと僕はトライバル的な形状、ラインが好きで、この作品を制作していた頃は特に鋭さというものに対して意識が強かったように思います。

刀が鋼を叩いて叩いて研いで研いで生み出される工程と、絵を描く工程に似たようなものを自分は感じていました。

これをヒントに、

普段はエスキースで下書きを何度も描いてだんだんとブラッシュアップしてラインを作っていく工程を画面の中で重ねて表現出来ないかと考え、実験的に刀をモチーフに描いた作品です。

最初は太い筆でぼんやりとした柔らかな表現からスタートし、層を塗り重ねるにつれて、だんだんとラインを細く、よりシャープな表現へと変化させていきました。

普段は捨ててしまっていた制作における途中段階を表現の構成要素として残すという実験になりました。

"思考の変化"、"方向性の修正"、"出来上がるまでの時間の痕跡"などを作品の中に目に見える形で含めることが出来たのは自分にとって興味深い発見になりました。

I have always liked tribal shapes and lines, and I think I was particularly conscious of sharpness when I was working on this piece.

I felt a similarity between the process of creating a Katana by beating and sharpening the steel and the process of drawing a my piece.

So I took this as a hint.

Normally, I draw a rough sketch many times on a draft and gradually create refine a line. I thought I could express such a process on a piece, and experimentally drew a sword as a motif.

I started out with thick brush strokes and soft, And ambiguous expressions. With each layer, I gradually changed the line to a thinner, sharper expression.

This experiment became a way to use the intermediate stages, which were until now discarded, as components of expression.

It was an interesting discovery for me to be able to visibly include in my work changes in thought, revisions in direction, and traces of the time it took to complete the piece.

Orecho=オレチョとは？

本多 孝男による複数の作品シリーズをシンボル化、融合することで誕生したキャラクター。

「オレチョ」は作家の自己を投影した表現者として作品に登場している。名前の由来は"己"を"超"えるより。

What is Orecho?

The character was born by symbolizing and fusing multiple series of artworks by Takao Honda.

"Orecho" is appeared in artworks as an expresser who projects himself.

The origin of the name comes from "I want always overcome myself". In Japanese mean Ore=myself, cho=overcome.
