ウリッシズ・ペレイラは、自分が象った陶器の人形はすべて固有の生命をもつと信じている。作家と個人的な関係をもつ存在として扱い、自ら生み出した素材とも対話すると信じている。
Ulisses Pereira believes that all his modelings in ceramics have own life. He treats them as beings that have a relationship with the artist in a personalized manner. Ulisses believes he exchanges the same matter of his creations.

ウリッシズズ・ペレイラ・シャヴェスは1929年ミナスジェライス州ジェキチニョニャ渓谷カライ市近郊のサントアントニオ川の近くで生まれた。陶器製造を生業とする家庭で育ち、家業を継いだ。作品は独創性豊かであり、地元では実用的で具象的な陶器の制作は女性の仕事とされたため注目を集める。子どもの頃は鳥や牛などの動物をモデルにした。伝統的な形を革新して極めて個性的な彫刻を開発する。擬人化したフィギュアや獣形神、複数の頭を持つ幻想的生物、人間の足を持つ鳥など。彼の指揮下で8人の子と妻のマリア・ジョゼは長年本格的な工芸工房を営んだが、今日でも継続しているのは一部である。ジェキチニョニャ渓谷でも屈指の陶芸家。
