Work Details
This sculptural work features a skull composed of approximately 3,000 dice. While dice typically evoke ideas of chance, probability, and randomness, their overwhelming repetition in this piece instead conveys a sense of inescapable structure—a quiet, inevitable defeat.
At the core of the work lies the artist’s long-held discomfort and quiet resistance toward the dominant values of contemporary art: conceptual frameworks, presentation, and context. Rather than confronting these ideas through critique or theory, the artist allows those feelings—complex, unresolved, and deeply personal—to manifest through form and presence.
Despite its symbolic weight, the work carries a subtle undercurrent of irony, even humor. It responds to the question, “What makes something a work of art?” not through explanation, but through a quiet, persistent gravity.
It stands as a kind of embodied question—thrown from the margins, not to challenge the system, but simply to exist beside it.
