ON SUNDAYS

On Sundays opened in 1980 as a specialty store featuring art books—primarily foreign publications—as well as postcards published overseas and museum merchandise from around the world. With the opening of the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art (Watari-um) in 1990, the shop relocated and reopened as the museum’s official shop, occupying the first floor and basement. Today, it operates as a comprehensive art shop that includes a cafe and an in-store gallery.

The 1st floor showcases a vast collection of over 10,000 types of postcards, alongside merchandise and products designed by domestic and international artists and designers, ranging from apparel to interior goods. The shop’s original diaries and letter sets have been long-selling favorites for over 20 years, with new editions released every season.

The basement floor (B1F) houses a specialized bookstore focusing on art, architecture, design, and photography. It also features "LightSeed Gallery," an exhibition space dedicated to emerging and undiscovered artists and designers, and "Art Kissa Beniya," a collaborative cafe run in partnership with Aoyama Beniya, a long-established Japanese confectionery shop in Aoyama. While the bookstore offers resources to deepen visitors' curiosity sparked by their museum experience, the gallery provides a window into noteworthy and cutting-edge creations. Meanwhile, the cafe serves as a relaxing space where guests can enjoy traditional Japanese sweets alongside authentic matcha and Japanese tea.

In addition, to celebrate the release of talked-about art books and products, On Sundays frequently hosts events such as artist talk shows, book signings, and pop-up stores.
