Overview

Founded in 2010 by Haruka Ito, island JAPAN is a Tokyo-based gallery and curatorial platform bridging contemporary art and society. Since relocating to Harajuku’s BLOCK HOUSE in 2016 and launching HARUKAITO by island in 2018, the gallery has evolved into a collaborative hub for experimental practices across sound, visual, and new media art. Ito has worked with pioneering figures such as Akio Suzuki and ∈Y∋, alongside emerging artists redefining the boundaries of contemporary expression. Through exhibitions, art fairs, and public projects, island JAPAN cultivates dialogue and reimagines the role of art in an ever-changing world.
