Overview

KANA KAWANISHI GALLERY is a contemporary art gallery featuring major artworks of Japanese and international artists, which exemplify interpretations of society through photography and other visual media.

In 2014, KANA KAWANISHI ART OFFICE was founded, and its gallery space opened in Minamiazabu, Tokyo, in the following year. In spring 2017, the gallery was relocated to the current location, Kiyosumi-Shirakawa. Its satellite space, specializing in photography, KANA KAWANISHI PHOTOGRAPHY, opened in 2018 in Nishiazabu.

While regularly exhibiting solo and group shows at the two locations in Tokyo, the gallery also actively participates in international contemporary art fairs across the globe. The exterior and interior of Kiyosumi-Shirakawa space, and the interior of Nishiazabu space were designed by Yuko Nagayama & Associates.

Kana Kawanishi was named as one of the “7 Power Players Transforming Tokyo Art Market” (Artnet News), one of “Tokyo’s Top Five New Galleries” (Blouin’ Artinfo), and “An Eye on Emerging Art” (Monocle). Press publications of the gallery include The Guardian, Forbes, Libération, Monocle, Bijutsu Techo, Artnet, Artsy, and Asahi Shimbun, to name a few.

Museum acquisitions through the gallery include the British Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
